Position Objective
- To provide support for students, especially those with Special Educational Needs (Behaviour, Emotional, Social and Focus), so that they are fully included within the St Andrews community and are able to access the curriculum and make progress.
- To work under the instruction and / or guidance of teaching staff and / or the SENCo to undertake work, care and support programmes for students. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area.
Responsibilities
The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young person’s for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant Cognita Safeguarding; Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home, s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Child Protection Officer/Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Head of indeed to the Regional CEP so that a referral can be made accordingly to the relevant third part services.
- Identify goals with class and subject teachers for individual students to ensure curriculum goals are met.
- Develop a number of strategies both inside and outside the classroom to engage the student and encourage learning.
- Report to teachers’ the developmental goals that have been met and potential areas to support the student.
- Work as a team to share ideas and concerns with the SEN team.
- Establish constructive relationships with students and interact with them according to individual needs
- Encourage students to act independently to promote self-esteem and independence
- Undertake student record keeping, monitoring students’ responses to learning activities
Position Requirements
List measurable or observable knowledge, skills, abilities and behaviours that are required to succeed in performing the essential activities
- Successful experience working with children in a school/early years environment
- Good reading and writing skills
- Numeracy Good numeracy skills
- Technology Knowledge of basic ICT to support learning
- Communication Written Ability to write basic reports
- Verbal Ability to use clear language to communicate information unambiguously
- Good understanding of the general aspect of child development
- Ability to assess progress and performance
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Education (Physical Therapy)
- Experience in working with children with special needs (2 years at least)
- Experience in working in an International School
- Fluent in English (written and oral)
